February Scholarship Letter

2/15/2024

FAFSA
As you might be aware, the new FAFSA is experiencing significant delays. They now have a dedicated page to help students and parents: https://studentaid.gov/announcements-events/fafsa-support/pro-tips
The latest news I got is that FAFSA applications will be sent to colleges around March 1st, and then processed by schools in about two additional weeks. Many colleges have moved their enrollment deadlines because of this; please check with individual schools for information.  Note that CSS Profile, required by most private schools and BHS Scholarships, is working as usual.

BHS Scholarships
The Brookline High School Scholarship Committee announces that applications are now available for BHS scholarships for students going to ANY college (including two half-tuition renewable Northeastern University scholarships). Applications are available online on the BHS homepage.
Applications must be completed ASAP. The Scholarship Committee would like parents to know that we use three criteria for choosing award recipients: academics, contributions and activities at BHS, and most importantly, unmet financial need. There are no merit scholarships per se given out through this program. To make fair decisions, the Committee requires that families fill out the CSS Profile financial aid form, available at CollegeBoard.com. Please use code #0424

Below is a listing of scholarships available to qualified BHS Grade 12 students. You can find many more scholarships on goingmerry.com and  fastweb.com
Additional Scholarships:
The National CCAA First-Year Scholarship is awarded to 16 randomly selected students from various geographic regions who attend one of our 116 member institutions in fall 2024. The scholarship was established to celebrate and promote Catholic higher education, and the National CCAA Board of Directors is pleased to help support students' transition to college.   The scholarship is a one-time, $1,000 award. This year's application is available here; it is brief and should only take students a few minutes to complete. The deadline to apply is Monday, April 1st.
TBB Scholarships, Inc. offers 4-year grants, based on merit and need, to eligible high school senior women who reside or attend school in Brookline, Newton, or Wellesley.  The 4-6 students who receive our scholarships for 2023 will be given $4,000 for tuition and fees their first year, with the amount rising to $7,000 by the time they graduate.  Please see TBBScholarships.org for the application and more information.
Book Lovers Scholarship is meant to inspire students to read more books. Eligibility: All high school students who have a passion for reading books. Amount: $500, awarded twice a year. https://calvinrosser.com/scholarships/book-lovers/
This list of financial resources for LGBTQ+ students contains nearly 200 scholarships, internships, and nonprofit resources designed for LGBTQ+ students, including additional grants for specific majors and for students from underrepresented groups.
This scholarship is for young women who reside in Norfolk county. The Henry O Peabody Scholarship can award $1000.00 - $5000.00 dollars a year renewable each year while attending a post secondary college or vocational school.

The Red Pine Scholars Program is seeking its next class of students from low- to middle-income families in Massachusetts who have demonstrated academic excellence and are planning to attend competitive colleges as freshmen in the fall of 2024. This program is designed to support undergraduate students through tuition assistance, mentoring, and other flexible financial supports. The Red Pine Scholars Program is dedicated to making college affordable for Massachusetts families and helping students reach their full potential. The program is funded by an anonymous donor and administered by The Philanthropic Initiative (TPI).
