BHS PSAT Information and Registration

9/30/2019

The PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) will be administered at Brookline High School on the morning of Saturday, October 19th from 7:45 am- 12:15 pm.

The PSAT/NMSQT measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills and writing skills. Brookline High School recommends that juniors take the PSAT/NMSQT in order to receive feedback about strengths and weaknesses in verbal and mathematical abilities and be able to compare their performance with that of thousands of juniors across the country who also take the test. The PSAT helps prepare students for the SAT later on in their school experience.   Lastly, juniors are also automatically entered into the National Merit Scholarship competition.

For the 2019 PSAT/NMSQT, students at Brookline High School will be registering online.  This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access using the link: www.TotalRegistration.net/PSAT/220445

Brookline High School is excited to offer families the convenience of paying exam fees online at the time of registration. The cost to take the PSAT is $20.  Please be sure to have a debit or credit card available before beginning registration. Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been made while avoiding mailing payment.   As a junior, if you feel you qualify for a fee waiver, please indicate that on the online form or see Ms. Aguilar in room 161.

Here are the important dates for the registration process:
  • Tuesday, Sep 24, 2019 at 8:00 AM - Registration Begins
  • Wednesday, Oct 9, 2019 at 11:59 PM - Registration Ends
  • Friday, Oct 11, 2019 at 11:59 AM - Registrations that have not been paid for will be cancelled and exams will not be ordered.

Free PSAT practice questions will be available to you on the confirmation page of your registration.

On Saturday, 10/19 - please report to BHS by 7:45 am. Bring #2 pencils, a calculator, and PHOTO IDENTIFICATION.  You will not be admitted to the exam without an ID.
Please contact Ms. Brenda Aguilar, brenda_aguilar@psbma.org , if you have questions or require financial assistance.

Save the date—Oct. 28 – for THE TRUTH ABOUT VAPING – UPDATED FOR FALL 2019
From nicotine addiction to life-threatening respiratory illness, the health risks of e-cigarettes (vapes, juuls) have been all over the news lately, and Brookline is not immune. In fact, vaping among our middle and high school students is on the rise. What do parents need to know? And what can we do to help our kids fully understand that these products are not harmless? Through the generosity of a Brookline community member in collaboration with PSB/ BHS Counseling-Guidance Department, Caron Treatment Centers will present a special informational parent event on October 28 at 7 p.m. in the Brookline High School Auditorium. Save the date! Please join us for this free presentation. Registration requested at https://thetruthaboutvaping.eventbrite.com

Updates from BHS Counseling/ Guidance Dept – Week of Sept 16, 2019

9/15/2019

ALL STUDENTS/PARENTS- CARETAKERS
Welcome to the 2019-20 school year from the BHS/OLS Counseling/Guidance Department!
You will receive weekly updates from BHS Guidance each week, sent to all students, parent/guardians (listed as “1st contact” on Aspen), and also fully uploaded to the BHS Guidance website. Encourage your child to be in touch with their guidance counselor.
With 9th grade students and staff at Old Lincoln, many 10th to 12th graders' guidance counselors and deans changed this year.  To find out who your student's guidance counselor is, log on to Aspen, click on "Family" tab and then on (one of) your student's name.  The middle column will list their 'administrator/dean and guidance counselor.  Most the counselors with students in Grades 10,11,12 have moved their offices to the new Counseling/Guidance HUB in Room 285. Kara Lopez (who also works with ACE students) will stay in her Room 248. Dan Bresman (SWS Counselor/ Program Director) is still in Room 400A. For more information on guidance and counseling support staff, contact info, and locations, see the attached PDF below.
Our goal is to offer BHS students support as they develop into caring, resilient, capable, and academically balanced young adults during their high school years and beyond.
