Our Program
The Brookline High School Wellness Program is designed to teach students content and skills, allowing them to be healthy and active throughout life.
Students learn how to apply current content knowledge while practicing their Health Literacy Skills and Physical Literacy skills based on National and State Standards.
Courses focus on the development of confidence in physical skills in a variety of lifetime activities. Students work together in various-sized groups to support teamwork and group dynamics in multiple environments. Emphasis is placed on the acceptance and appreciation of the range of individual abilities among students. Mindfulness and development of stress-management skills are a throughline in all the courses.
Students must earn wellness credit every year. Below is the slideshow that outlines some of the information.
The ninth-grade Lifetime Wellness course is required for graduation. If students arrive after 9th grade, they need to work with their guidance counselor to take a class that meets the health education graduation requirement. This Lifetime Wellness course meets four times per week for one semester. An integrated approach affords students the chance to practice both their physical education and health education skills in authentic settings with real-life application.
Please refer to the current course catalog for a comprehensive outline of the wellness education offerings. We look forward to supporting your overall wellness at Brookline High School.
