all nights are geared towards students AND parents! posted by Lenny Libenzon, BHS College Counselor The National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) is pleased to announce its 2016 Boston Performing and Visual Arts College Fair on Thursday, October 27th, 2016 from 7 p.m to 9 p.m. at Boston University – Fuller Building. This program is an important resource for the fine arts students interested in pursuing undergraduate and graduate programs of study in the areas of music, theatre, dance, visual arts, graphic design, film production, and other related disciplines. Students will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from colleges, universities, conservatories, festivals, and other educational institutions with specialized programs in the visual and performing arts. Attendees of these free events will learn about educational opportunities, admission and financial aid, portfolio days, auditions and entrance requirements, and much more. A workshop on Navigating the Audition/Portfolio Process will be offered from 6:10 p.m to 6:50 p.mat the College of Fine Arts - Theatre Lab. All participants are encouraged to register prior to attending this event. This will make navigating the fair and collecting information from multiple colleges and universities much easier. By registering, students can print a bar coded confirmation to be used on-site at the fair as an electronic ID. Starting on Monday, September 19, we will host the College Visits. College Admissions Representatives will come to room 164 to talk to interested students. You can find the list by clicking on Colleges Tab in Naviance or by visiting http://bhs.brookline.k12.ma.us/calendars.html Here is what you need to do to attend the session: if you will be missing a class, take a green permission slip from room 162 (main guidance office) and ask your teacher to sign it at least a day prior to the meeting. Bring the signed form to the session. We will collect it and give it to your Dean's Secretary. You do not need to do this if you are coming during a free block. Please be advised that the college visit counts toward your attendance total (21 max for the year). In addition, please register for the visit on Naviance at least a day in advance. This way the representative will know that you are coming and will have your email. Click on "View all upcoming visits" and then "Sign up" on Naviance. Please email me with any questions! This coming Tuesday, September 13, during T block (9:25 - 10:05) Mr. Libenzon will conduct the College Process Assembly in the Auditorium. This is a MANDATORY assembly for ALL seniors. In addition, Senior Guidance Seminars will begin the week of Sept 19th. There will be two seminars - one the week of Sept 19th and the second the week of Sept 26th. If your seminar is during a lunch block, you will take 3rd lunch. If you are not sure when you are scheduled for a Senior Guidance Seminar, check your schedule in the student portal. It is important that you attend these seminars so you can receive a copy of your transcript, learn how to request your transcript be sent to colleges, details regarding recommendations, and receive other important information about the college seach and application process. The event will be held on Tuesday, October 18th, 2016. Representatives from Canadian institutions will be present to answer questions about their colleges, tuitions, application processes and more.
