BHS Guidance/Counseling Dept Weekly Updates – Week of January 18, 2022

1/18/2022

Today (Tues) and Wed this week are the Week B schedule and the midyear exam schedule starts this Thurs 1/20 and Friday 1/21, plus Monday 1/24 and Tuesday 1/25.

Again, this year’s midyear exam period has shifted to cover the 4 school days mentioned above. Students are NOT required to attend full days of school on these midyear exams days BUT ARE REQUIRED TO COME TO ANY EXAM SCHEDULED BY THEIR TEACHER IN CERTAIN SUBJECTS. Teachers are reviewing and sharing their expectations for this “exam time” – which may include actual exams or assessments/projects, etc. Students should be aware of the exam plan for each of their classes now or during this week of school. See attached Midyear Exam schedule and room location document for more info.

Intercession Day is now scheduled on Wed January 26. This day is focused on a “A Call to Action”.  With our whole school reading Just Mercy as a starting point, the school community will reflect on what it means for all of us at BHS to individually engage and take action to create a more just school, community, and world. All students are expected to be in school for this day.

January BHS Scholarship Letter

1/18/2022

Dear Seniors and Parents/Caretakers,

Below is the partial list of scholarships available to qualified students.  You can find many more scholarships on goingmerry.com and fastweb.com .

BHS Scholarships
The Brookline High School Scholarship Committee announces that applications are now available for tuition scholarships to Boston University (2 full-tuition renewable scholarships) and Northeastern University (2 half-tuition renewable scholarships).  Applications are available online at the BHS homepage under BHS Scholarship Application. Applications must be completed ASAP. To make fair decisions, the Committee requires that families fill out the CSS Profile financial aid form, available at CollegeBoard.com.  Please use code  #0424

NOTE: If you would like to be considered for the BU or Northeastern scholarships and have not yet applied, you must do so ASAP and submit your CSS Profile. The Committee is in the process of reviewing applicants now. Let Ms. Whelan know if you have questions - her email is kathleen_whelan@psbma.org

The Scholarship Committee would like parents to know that we use three criteria for choosing award recipients: academics, contributions and activities at BHS, and most importantly, unmet financial need.  There are no merit scholarships per se given out through this program. The deadline for applying for BHS scholarships for students attending ANY OTHER college is April 1. Please use the same application as above.
