10/18/2020

Key notes for this week:
  • No School for students Gr 9-12 tomorrow, Monday 10/19. This is a Professional Development Day for all BHS faculty and staff.
  • Schedule for this week will be: Tues 10/20- “Monday schedule” and Wed 10/21 – “Tues schedule”. Thurs and Friday schedules remain the same. 9TH Graders have further nuances to their schedules this week due to staff preparation for a hybrid start on 10/26. Look for emails directly from the OLS administration please.
  • Quarter 1 IPR (interim progress report) #2 will be uploaded to both student and parent portals on Monday 10/26 ONLY FOR STUDENTS WHOSE GRADE IS BELOW A C+. These IPRs offer an excellent opportunity for parents/caregivers to discuss the successes that a student is experiencing with school and provide a morale boost for classes that may not be going smoothly. There continues to be time for students to improve academic work between now and the Quarter 1 end date of 11/6.
  • Quarter 1 ends on November 6
  • Target Date for shift to Hybrid Learning – Gr 9 à October 26

BHS Guidance/Counseling Dept Weekly Updates – Week of Oct 5, 2020

10/4/2020

Welcome to October! Thank you for taking the time to read these updates. If you have any feedback to share, please contact Darby Neff-Verre.
In the past update email, one of the attached FAQs 'Whom To Call When at BHS” indicated that parents/caregivers would have observer access to their student’s CANVAS account. This was not accurately updated and parents do not have this access. The newly updated document is attached with this update.
The goal for our high school students is to help them build responsibility and independence as learners and young people in our world. Students should be learning to use these attributes to they are ready for life after high school. However, you are concerned about your student’s follow through with school work, first talk to them. Find out what is working (and not working) from their perspective. As a way to keep communication flowing between teachers, students, parents/caregivers, and support staff, BHS teachers will be completing the first of two IPRs (Interim Progress Reports) for every student during this 1st quarter of the school year. This IPR #1 will be shared on the Parent and Student Portal by tentatively this Friday 10/9/20. More information on this IPR initiative will be forthcoming from the BHS Head of School, Anthony Meyer, and the Assistant Head of School, Hal Mason, soon.
Lastly, a reminder that student schedules overall should be getting finalized by this week for any unresolved issues.
Counselors are here and ready to support EVERY BHS student. Students should not hesitate to contact their counselor for any questions or concerns – school related, post high school planning related, extracurricular activities related, or life related!

October 03rd, 2020

10/3/2020

Phew! What a week of student orientation last week. Teachers and students were working furiously to manage the “next normal” of mostly remote classes for BHS students. Counselors were working feverishly with curriculum coordinators to correct as many student scheduling errors as they could… and will continue to do this work for errors only.

The two week schedule freeze for students asks students to remain in their current schedule UNLESS A COURSE IS MISSING OR WAS NOT REQUESTED will end this Wednesday 9/30. If a student still desires a “change of mind” schedule change by 9/30, the student should be talking with their parent-guardian and current teacher about a possible change, then contacting their assigned counselor to see if a change is possible when working with curriculum coordinators and deans. A digital drop/add form is required for signatures from student, parent-caregiver, current teacher, curriculum coordinator, counselor, and dean is required and will start with your counselor, after you’ve talked with your current teacher. Please note that there may be less ability to drop and add courses this year due to limited seats in classes. Students are also responsible to track their credits to BHS graduation, with the help of their counselor.
