Thanks again to everyone who reads these updates from BHS Guidance! As BHS Guidance/Counseling Coordinator, I plan to continue these weekly updates for the 2019-20 school year. Quarter 4 Progress Reports (IPRs) for students in Gr 9-11 were uploaded to the student and parent portals last Thurs May 23. Please be sure to check these reports to get the latest updates on your student’s progress as we near the end of the school year and final exams.

Brookline High School Summer School is a dynamic learning opportunity offering original credit, credit recovery and enrichment courses for students in grades 6-12. Summer School will be held at the Old Lincoln School (194 Boylston St) from July 1st - Aug 2nd. More information can be found in the course catalog. 

The BHS Guidance Dept especially notes the new summer school course:

CAREER ED. PRE-INTERNSHIP & INTERNSHIP         8:30-11:00               ½ credit
Internship - The Career Education Internship Experience offers students the opportunity to earn credit for successful performance at an unpaid internship.  Internships will be arranged with the support of the career counselor.
Pre-Internship - This introductory experience is for students who wish to develop job-related competencies that will prepare them for placement at an internship.  This career seminar course will students to reflect on their individual strengths, personality attributes, as well as their interests and values, and connect them to potential career paths.
Open to: BHS students (Rising 10-12 graders CAN receive BHS credit for this course)

Another engaging opportunity for BHS students was offered on Tues 4/23 – Day of Mental Health Awareness. Many students joined workshops to build their understanding of mental health issues including the relationship between mental health and school, education around eating disorders, recognizing the impact of mental health in different communities, and overall understanding of and breaking down stigma of mental health concerns. Lastly, the important topic of how to support a friend or family member who you are worried about was emphasized. Important points were noted including finding at least one trusted adult in or out of school to talk to and the importance of letting an adult know if you have concerns about a friend. Never worry alone!
