BHS Guidance/Counseling Dept Weekly Updates – Week of Feb 1, 2021

1/31/2021

Quarter 3 and the new semester has begun. Be sure you are attending the courses in your Sem 2 schedule, even if you think you may want to make some changes after the freeze ends this Tues 2/2. Note that adding courses may be challenging with the limits in our schedule this year and due to health guidelines. If you want to drop a course, be sure to consider what credits you need toward graduation requirements.
Quarter 2 grades will be uploaded to the student/parent portals on Friday 2/5.
IMORTANT FOR SENIORS – check your grades on 2/5 since BHS guidance will be sending out all Q1&2 grades to colleges you’ve applied to during week of Feb 8!

It’s another week with a special schedule with Friday 2/5/21 being a ½ day for students with staff having professional development time. Please see the attached special schedule.
Stay warm and get ready to shovel some snow!

BHS Guidance/Counseling Dept Weekly Updates – Week of Jan 11, 2021

1/10/2021

ALL STUDENTS
The SWS (BHS School Within a School) admissions process is now open!
SWS Admissions Info Packet
Please take the opportunity to see if SWS could be a good fit.

School Within a School, located on the fourth floor of BHS, is an alternative, democratic community for a diverse group of approximately 120 sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Goals for students include taking as much responsibility for their education as possible, sharing decision-making in running SWS, and contributing to building a caring community. For 50 years, SWS has provided students with the opportunity to participate actively as leaders in their own educations and develop meaningful relationships with teachers based on mutual respect. Admission to SWS is based on a lottery, the criteria of which are determined by the SWS Town Meeting. In addition to Town Meeting, SWS students take at least two classes in the program, including English. They take the rest of their classes in the mainstream of BHS. More information about the program, and the admissions process, can be found at swsbrookline.org.
