Spring of 2020

9/17/2020

In the spring of 2020, when school was closed and classes went remote, Student Council continued to meet with Legislature and Judiciary.  Members were very active and met virtually.  Member of the council helped to create a student survey and sent a joint letter to admin about questions and concerns that students were expressing during this difficult time.  Go to the Legislature blog to see a copy of the letter.

In addition, the Student Council completed the club fund allocation for the 2020-2021 school year.

Also, congrats to Claire Gallion for being elected student representative to School Committee!

What's up in Student Council?

3/5/2020

Today in Student Council, students broke up into two groups.  1 group was in charge of finalizing the new plan for club funding. The Student Council has $8,000 that they can allocate to clubs who are seeking funds. This year, the Council is seeking to overhaul the process that clubs use to seek funds. The new process will be more transparent, easier to understand and hopefully, more fair!  Stay tuned for more details.

The second group was in charge of discussing and revising multiple bills that are currently "in the works".  These bills include a field trip absences bill, a revised headphones bill, a right to vote bill and a bill designed to make sure students get enough time to complete their HW.

Let us know what you are thinking by giving us feedback through our feedback form on this website.

December Update from Student Council

12/5/2019

I hope everything had a great Thanksgiving and Snow Day! Some updates from Student Council:
  • Brookline voted to lower the voting age to 16! While the town is still seeking approval from the state, people 16 and over can still register to vote through the Brookline town website. If you have a valid MA driver’s licence, you can register online. If not, you can mail in a registration form available on the website below.
  • Before break, legislature discussed the picnic table headphone bill. Student Council is currently working on revisions.
  • Student Council is also looking to collect information on club demographics in regards to club funding. If you would like funding for a club, a form will be sent out in the coming weeks.
  • Some Student Council members are looking to clarify various athletic policies for seniors, and out-of-school sports.

We hope that the assemblies held for all grades were informative! We loved hearing your feedback on what we’re working on, and we’ll be in touch soon about what we’re working on.

Thanks!
Jack Heuberger, and Student Council
